I’m interested in the interaction between structures and organic forms, and the idea of a codependency or an alteration existing between these forms. My work considers both conceptual structures, such as the mind, and more concrete structures represented in patterns or man-made forms. I question these structures and our relationship to them, and how, as an organic form encroaches on a structure, both elements are forced to change. These themes reflect my interest in the corruption of memory, and how memories become altered over time.

A lot of my inspiration comes for something rooted in reality transitioning into the realm of fantasy. My process takes me down paths such as to conjure up what the pattern of an animal from another world would look like or to perceive the form that a plant not bound by gravity would take. I'm inspired everyday, I'll see a pattern or an organic object and start to alter it in my head, mix it around and then the product of this act becomes the artwork. There is an odd marriage that takes place through this process; it makes the work half reality and half fantasy. My work embodies that magical nature of imagination through the use of bright, bold colours as well as playful materials.

My process relies on me troubleshooting materials; this fearless material exploration allows for continual learning to be achieved through each work. Every material presents me with challenges as well as the elements of chance and unpredictability. Using unexpected materials allows me the opportunity to interpret their properties and consider how far I can exploit those characteristics. Something magical happens when you blur lines in the art world; it’s nice to make your own rules. I want the materials to allow the viewer to embrace the works’ oddities, and encourage them to experience the work from a position of curiosity.
